soggy Brussels sprouts almost ruined me

Back in the day when 4 kids and a hard-working husband filled her home, my mom was an amazing cook. Seriously, she could make a feast out of famine.
There wasn't much she whipped up that I didn't gratefully gobble.
Until...boiled. Brussels. sprouts. day.
Never before in my life had something so unpleasant crossed my palate. Bland, droopy orbs of tiny cabbage-like buds fell way off the Jeannette Kling high mark.
I swore I would never, ever again eat Brussels sprouts.
Never say never.
Years later, I was scrolling the tube and an Italian cook introduced her recipe of the day: sauteed Brussels sprouts. I almost flicked the channel.
But, curiosity got the better of me. I watched her mindfully peel each leaf off every sprout until she had a bowl overflowing with verdant freshness. Along with rich olive oil, fresh garlic, salt, and pepper, she made sprouts look appealing.
The next time I was in the grocery, I bought some sprouts and prepared them as I'd seen on TV.
They. Were. Da. Bomb!
Recalling these memories today reminded me that preparation in the kitchen is key.
When I embodied this lesson, I realized another truth: sometimes, our bodies need a new recipe to feel better!
As I grow wiser, my body is requesting I play with different ingredients. Some days it is asking me to lift heavy weight. Other days, a restorative yoga practice is enough. Most days, a walk simply to drink in all the beauty around me is therapeutic.
I wonder: what needs a little reseasoning in your life?
Yesterday, I roasted 2 sheet pans of veggies for my weekly lunches.
And yes, Brussels sprouts made the cut!
Is there a food you once disliked and now love? I'd love to hear your story!
Be well and keep things juicy,
Jennifer (she/her)
Lots of openings for bodywork for May, including a few on Memorial Day and Monday evenings (new!).
Updated mask and late-cancel policies for my office are in effect as well. Read them here.
