feeling good when the world feels bad

...it is *OFFICIALLY* marshmallow roasting season!

Fewer things bring me greater joy than a warm, perfectly puckered, golden brown, ooey gooey puff of sugar.

Better yet? Sandwich that melting gem between some graham crackers and dark chocolate and I'm in heaven!

But please, don't kill my buzz reading the full "Jet-Puffed" ingredient list to me. I eat mighty clean 99% of the time and a couple mouthfuls of words I can't pronounce won't irk me.

Besides, there is plenty to upset the apple cart these days.

I'm very aware that I'm writing this message the day after yet another school shooting.

I cried hard while driving home from the gym this morning, my heart breaking open for every parent whose small child didn't get to climb the steps on the big yellow bus and arrive home safely.

I feel angry on a deep, cellular level.

Like you, I'm asking the proverbial, "Why?"

I'm coming up empty.

Every single day there is another painful, collective trigger thrown our way.

Sometimes we take the hit and it lingers in our bodies, creating distress signals like anxiety, depression, panic attacks, or pain.

Other times, there's impact and we make a conscious choice to pause, fully feel, and find some measure of release.

One thing that helps me? Taking small steps each day to resource myself enough to deal with the next batch of bad news.

Which is why I toasted and mindfully ate 4 marshmallows while sitting around a crackling campfire in the verdant mountains of Western Maryland this past weekend.

Filling my gullet with sweetness while sitting in the company of people I love? Resourced.

Salsa dancing on a rooftop at sunset with friends? Tank full.

Unrolling my sticky mat each day to move my body in ways that feel good? Ready for what's next.

Nothing glitzy or gimmicky, just a series of little things that top off my energetic cup so I can feel a sense of inner protection and be prepared to take the next step forward.

And, in case you haven't noticed...

I've added some Saturday hours back into my schedule for the summer. It won't be every weekend, but my online calendar is published for the next 60 days so you can book ahead.

And, if you have Memorial Day or July 4th off work, I will be in the office to help you fill your cup with hands-on nurturing.

Peace to you, dear reader.

Jennifer (she/her)

P.S.: Registration is also open for my weekly yoga classes, including my Monday evening Yoga for Perimenopause & Menopause offering.
