Have You Forgotten How to Dream?
Jennifer Brennan | DEC 14, 2020
In 2014, when I was working with my first life coach, I realized that I had forgotten how to dream. After a lifetime of worrying about the future, I had learned to live rooted in the present moment with my glance cast forward only a few weeks at a time. Fill my work calendar. Keep track of family activities. Run the errands. Schedule the appointments. Repeat.
Present-focused mindfulness is important. Back then, I felt so accomplished when I realized I was sweating the small stuff less and letting each day unfold on its own.
But, too much of a good thing isn't always a good thing. By keeping my attention concentrated on the present, I neglected dreaming and scheming about my future. A part of my creative core was snuffed out as a result. When did I stop dreaming? And why?
For me, the practical matters of shifting from a marriage to being a divorced mom co-parenting young kids between 2 households took a ton of precious energy and heart space. Because I felt so obligated to provide and support my children, and keep my own head above water, I did not give myself permission to playfully entertain what I wanted to attract into my life in the months and years to come.
During one session, I cried to my coach, "I've forgotten how to dream." She led me on a guided meditative look into my future and I felt a little life breathed back into my body. It was comforting to allow myself a peek at the life I wanted to have, even if at that moment it felt unachievable or impossible.
Since that session, I've embraced the power of intention, the Law of Attraction, and manifesting. When we envision possibilities and connect with desired feeling and tangible outcomes for our lives, we ignite something magical. As we ground our focus on our heart-felt wants and ask for all the goodness we deserve, pretty amazing things happen!

If you're ready to dream, scheme, and step into what's yours for the taking, let's kick-start our new year together! I'll be teaching my annual Vision Board Workshop virtually this year on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. ET. Registration is open on my website. All registrants will receive an email from me a few days in advance of the workshop with worksheets we'll use after I lead you on a guided meditation. In the meantime, gather a poster board or cardstock, glue stick, and scissors, and perhaps a few old magazines. You can also find images online or from your own photos--but don't obsess now about finding pictures! The meditation and mental work we do will help guide what images and words land on your vision board.
I'll be taking a short respite from my weekly missives until January. BUT, my yoga class schedule will remain the same with the exception of Christmas Eve when class is cancelled.
Wishing you all every bit of sweetness, vitality, and love you deserve,
Jennifer
