Dear Body, I Love You.

It’s so easy to attach to the aspects of ourselves we dislike. For me, midlife has ushered biological changes like weight gain, dry skin, brain fog, radiant warming events (in laywoman’s terms, hot flashes), and more frequent joint stiffness. It also takes longer for my body to heal after injury and recover after times of stress and illness.
Making peace with these shifts is not easy for me. In fact, there are moments when I feel incredibly out-of-love with my body. I don’t like the extra 5 pounds of belly fat. I don’t like the stiffness I feel each morning in my joints. I don’t like that I can’t comfortably walk as quickly as I used to.
I am learning to reframe my negative thoughts about my physique. That muffin top belly? It’s protection for my organs if I fall or have an accident. Morning aches are a loving reminder to lubricate my joints with movement and to hydrate and nourish smartly. And so what if I can’t walk as swiftly as I once did; I can still walk!

Let’s fall in love with our bodies this week!
Each day this week, I encourage you to identify one thing about your body for which you are grateful. You could speak it into the mirror or write it down in a gratitude journal. Maybe it’s your hair. Your strong legs. Your steady heartbeat. Your smile. Your right big toe. Maybe you are just thankful to have a body. Connect with just one thing each day.
If mantra resonates with you, perhaps you could say, “Dear body, I love you.”
I'd love to hear how this gratitude practice lands for you. What do you love about your body? How are you currently embracing ALL of you? Send me a message to share.
Part gentle movement, part restorative yoga to center, calm, and invite ease. Bring 1-2 bed pillows and a blanket to class. This class offers tiered pricing of $10-20.
