I kicked the new year off with 2 vision board workshops, guiding over 40 students to take a loving peek into their hearts and begin dreaming and scheming about what they most want to invite into their lives.

As happens each time I facilitate this offering, we began unearthing scenes of subtle life refinement and major life reboots. We discovered limiting beliefs, stinkin' thinkin', and comfort zones that needed to be bid adieu.

The process through which I lead workshop attendees also begins opening doors to them making more aligned choices toward what matters the most. From there, goal setting and the seeds of daily habit shifts are planted.

There is excitement! There is hope! There is joy! Images and power words are arranged and affixed to poster board and a compass, a roadmap, a picture of all the goodness we want to attract gets slapped on the wall for open eyes to gaze upon day after day. It is magic!

And then...there is contraction. A muttered, "Holy shit, I'm crazy to have this vision and these grand plans and how the f*&k do I get from the hot mess that is me today to the glowing, peaceful, successful goddess I want to become?"

Dear heart, I feel you. I see you. I am right there with you.

Here are two bits of wisdom that help me along my journey.

  • Baby shoes and big girl panties DO work together! By adulthood, we've learned that there is a lot of crap we just need to suck up and get down and dirty doing. Where some of us get foiled is by the notion that because we're wearing big girl underwear, we must also be giant stepping our way forward in 5" stilettos. Not true. What if we committed to baby-stepping our way forward? Breaking goals into doable bits? Taking one task at a time? Asking for a hand to hold along the way? Falling down and getting right back up? It is okay to know we have work to do, feel nervous about it, and do it anyway in small, insightful steps.

  • A 1% pivot every day helps us grow exponentially over the course of a year. What if each day, instead of biting off more than we can reasonably chew, we made just a tiny shift? Using the example of a couch potato wanting to commit to completing a 5K walk, a 1% pivot is waking up and putting on exercise clothes and shoes. The next day, a 1% pivot might be walking around the house in those clothes and shoes. Day 3's 1% pivot might be walking outside in the exercise gear to get the mail. Pivot on day 4 and you're in those clothes and shoes walking around your block. Adding a small shift each and every day builds commitment to yourself and this is what must happen in order for our coach potato friend to walk that first complete kilometer, let alone the entire 5K distance.

Two simple keys for building healthy, sustainable habits: baby steps and the 1% pivot.

One of my superpowers is helping overwhelmed, overworked midlifers find ease, balance, and fulfillment in their lives. For those ready to shift from "I'm thinking about making a change" to "I am fully ready to do this right now," I can help you baby-step and 1% pivot your way toward attracting all the goodness you desire and deserve in your one amazing life. I may be wearing my fuzzy slippers while we walk the path together, but we'll keep the stride small.

May you find your way forward, in whatever footwear that will carry you,

Jennifer
