Somebody pinch me!

I can't believe it, but November 2023 marks the end of my 15th year in private massage therapy practice!

The only thing I've managed to maintain longer than that, without falter, is a prize-fighting baby tooth on my upper left row of chompers. There's not a permanent pearly white to fill the spot if it pops out of my mouth so you know I'm flossing that bad boy daily!

Anyhoo...

I still remember the first bodywork session I gave as a solopreneur in the sunroom of my marital home, soothing pear-green walls enveloping my client and me with calm mojo.

I'm not pulling your leg when I say that color code #74B72E helped me maintain my sanity as new practitioner nerves and the pattering of 2 sets of little people feet tried to disrupt my flow!

Fast forward to today...3 (or 4?) offices later, session counts in the multiple 5 figures, a pandemic that shuttered one business and led to the creation of the one you see now, and so. much. laundry, it's been as wet and wild as the budget lip gloss I wore in the 80s.

Anniversaries are special to me. They offer a pause to reflect, to mourn, and to celebrate.

This year, I am basking in the glow of personal growth and a whole lot of letting go. Those small humans I mentioned above are now young adults wearing much bigger shoes as they walk paths of their choice and hot damn, I helped get them there!

The bright spots in my life are balanced with gray areas as I'm also mourning the loss of work flow as I once knew it. Before the pandemic, I often had a wait list. Since 2020, my practice has been incredibly unpredictable and I've yet to have a week where I'm fully booked. It's weird and unsettling.

What I'm celebrating as I hold space for the ups and downs of self-employment is that I no longer shift into panic mode during the lean times. Would I like them to end? Hell yes! But I'm also highly attuned to the collective struggles we are all navigating right now--socially, politically, economically--and I choose to carry on and trust that love prevails.
