please don't *squash* my autumn delight

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, we are movin' and groovin' toward my hap-hap-happiest time of year!

I just ADORE autumn! Contrary to many, I come alive in late September as my body welcomes fewer "personal tropical moments" and I contemplate which cozy sweater to pull overhead before I sip my a.m. cuppa on the deck.

The fiery colors, the crisp air, the crunchy leaves all put a spring (or shall I say "footFALL") in my step. And don't even get me started on the harvest-fresh flavors of apples and squash, the jolly plumpness of pumpkins, or the spicy aroma of homemade chai on a chilly afternoon.

On a more spiritual level, the autumn equinox (which this year is marked in the northern hemisphere on September 23) is also a time for inner reflection.

As mother nature offers her final gifts of plenty and we prepare for the quiet of winter, fall is also a nice time to contemplate our personal lives.

  • What energy zapping activities, mindless time fillers, people, or habits might you drop like dead leaves and allow to be composted to fertilize your renewal next spring?
  • Who or what makes your life a little more vibrant? What do you appreciate or give thanks for in your life right now?
  • Where have you slipped out of balance? Are you "doing" too much and slogging along in a rest deficit? How could you embody the equinox, a day of equal parts light and dark, and move toward more equanimity?

If autumn is not your fave time of year, you can tell me to bugger off. I get it. Lord knows I grumble about summer swelter for months on end.

I'll leave you with this gentle reminder: seasons change. Feelings and experiences and even fall are temporary destinations in the cycle of life.

Yours along for the leaf peeping ride,

Jen (she/her)
