are you "tapped out" like a maple tree?

It's spring in earnest where I live in suburban Washington, DC. My garden is in robust bloom with cooler temperatures aiding a slow, steady opening of bulbs and blossoms.

Isn't that a metaphor for living a balanced life? "Slow and steady wins the race" is sage wisdom and I'm seeing that lesson offered each day in nature.

Two weekends ago I braved the "feels like zero degrees" temperatures in Upstate NY. No signs of spring there, but my mom and I kept the house toasty as we baked pies together. She talked about the maple trees being all tapped out. She said she and dad had boiled all the sap into syrup, fingers sticky with sugary goodness, and she was done with it all!

I know at lot of us are feeling like those glorious maple trees at my childhood home--a bit depleted and a little low on sweetness. We're feeling a bit "tapped out."

Being human brings energy levels in waves, those ups and downs that are just part of the wild ride of life.

Feeling spent is also a opening to ask yourself where you've been pressing the throttle too hard and where you might let off the gas a bit.

Sometime in the throes of the pandemic I recorded an 8-minute guided self-massage video that returns you to your sensual self through some loving touch. I'm offering it again today, my gift to anyone feeling low energy, tense, on the verge of snapping, in need of a little nourishment. A recent client declared it a great tool for self-care between massages.

Watch and listen to the video right here.

As the season unfolds, I will breathing some freshness into my wellness offerings. Of course, me being me, I'm so tempted to do allllll the things at once, but I know that's a recipe for burning my own sap to charred yuckiness.

First up on the spring refresh? Yoga for Perimenopause & Menopause, starting Monday, May 2 at 7:30 pm. This will be a virtual gentle yoga class with pelvic floor health practices, breathwork, movement to build strength and improve flexibility, and mindfulness woven throughout.

A class of this nature is something my clientele asked for and I'm excited to see where this goes! Spread the word by sharing this blog post, telling a friend, or teaching a bird to tweet excitedly about my class!

Wishing you, dear one, a slow, steady rebloom this spring!

So much love,

Jennifer (she/her)
